From Crisis to Care:

Why CSU Took a Bold Leap in Medical Education

In a time when medical advancements are transforming lives across the globe, access to quality healthcare remains a pressing challenge—especially in the Philippines. The Caraga region, in particular, has long faced a shortage of competent healthcare professionals and limited access to medical education. This gap became even more evident during public health emergencies, where the region struggled to meet the demands of its people.

Why "Five-Star Physician"?

At Caraga State University, the “Five-Star Physician” is more than a title—it is a vision. The university’s School of Medicine is committed to nurturing future doctors who embody five essential roles: Healer, Health Educator, Social Mobilizer, Researcher, and Leader. These roles form the foundation of the university’s mission to develop physicians who are:

  • Community-focused and service-oriented, empowered through value-based and transformative education.
  • Equipped with meaningful learning experiences that prepare them to educate and empower communities, while remaining culturally sensitive, innovative, and responsive to local health needs.
  • Driven by research and inquiry, generating evidence that informs and supports relevant, impactful healthcare policies and programs.

Through this holistic approach, CSU aims to produce not just doctors—but changemakers who will lead the way toward healthier, more innovative, and equitable access to healthcare for all.

Being a doctor is more than just a profession – it is a calling. If you want your medical journey to be rooted in service, innovation, and community impact, CSU’s School of Medicine is your home and path forward. Be one of the five-star physicians today!
